In September 2024, our city was hit by a hurricane. Our community experienced extensive loss during this time, from damaging homes, schools, and businesses. Open Door was affected in many ways as well. We had to close our doors for almost 3 weeks, and our largest annual fundraiser was canceled. In addition, our campus was damaged, destroying the shade that covers our playground. A large portion of previous years’ fundraising money was spent on purchasing and installing that playground shade, needed to keep our students cool during those hotter Georgia months. In order to fix the shade as soon as possible for our students, we decided it was best to use money from our school’s savings. Open Door’s Board of Trustees has created this GoFundMe page to help our school replenish the money in our savings that was used to fix our playground shade. We are aiming to eventually raise $14,000 to cover what it has cost to rebuild our shade. Every little bit counts, and no donation is too small.
