In 1964, a group of parents opened the first integrated kindergarten in Augusta, GA. No child was turned away due to their ethnicity or religion. It was the only school with an ‘open door’ policy and was entirely administered by the parents. For more than 50 years, Open Door Preschool has continued to provide a nurturing environment for children 14 months through Kindergarten.
It remains unique as the only parent-run, non-sectarian preschool in the area. True to its history, it continues to be a non-profit organization.
